Traditional null hypothesis significance testing (NHST)—incorporating the statistical null and alternative hypotheses, p-value, plus critical level of significance of 0.05 (5 percent)—needs little introduction. It is a core component of any undergraduate or postgraduate curriculum in the health care sciences. NHST has become the foundation of decision-making in all areas of society, and noneless so than in clinical and health care research.
