Statisticians Team with Math Educators for In-Service Workshops

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) reinforced and augmented the position of statistics and working with real data sets into the K–12 mathematics curriculum. Even though most instructors currently teaching statistics and mathematics in our schools have at least a passing familiarity with some of the statistics concepts, almost all lack the experience applying these tools and concepts to problems routinely encountered in nonacademic settings. Further, the statistics they are expected to teach is not material that they typically covered as math students, or that many feel comfortable with.
