The history of the American Statistical Association (ASA) is characterized by the phrase “timing is everything.” That description comes from its start in Boston in November 1839, when the five founders took advantage of growing educational and technical professional opportunities to establish the association. From its beginning, the ASA has continued to evolve to meet the mission of promoting the practice and profession of statistics. In 2022, the timing was right for the ASA to become a member of the R Consortium.
