Dynamics of Reward-Based Crowdfunding: Kickstarter Rock Music Projects

Around October 2015, David Teie, a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra, launched a project entitled “Music for Cats” on Kickstarter. Drawing heavily on his universal theory of music, he aimed to use this endeavor to design sounds (using musical instruments such as a harp) that progress at the rate of a cat’s purr, thereby soothing and relaxing feline companions. The project has been overwhelmingly successful, with, as of this writing, 10,165 backers generating $241,651, driving it way past its $20,000 target.
