Functional Data Analysis
With the proliferation of new data types in science and life more generally, has come the opportunity and challenge for us, as statisticians, to develop appropriate new methodologies for their analysis. One of the most popular new and growing areas of methods development is functional data analysis, pioneered by Jim Ramsay and Bernard Silverman. On the surface, functional data analysis might seem quite similar to familiar methods such as time series or longitudinal analysis, but the perspective and hence the approach are quite different.
