Election Audits in Florida
Florida’s first election audit was in response to a crisis. On March 7, 2006, a small election involving just three municipalities was conducted in Pinellas County. When counting the votes, memory cartridges failed; they indicated they were “already read” when they were not. In spite of multiple attempts to restart the count, the system continued to fail for more than two hours. One candidate said he had been unable to vote.
