Goodness of Wit Test #12: Straightforward!

goodness of wit

In the previous column, I began a series to introduce you to various word puzzle types popular in the National Puzzlers’ League (NPL), of which I am an active member. The ENIGMA is the monthly publication of the NPL; it is full of a variety of puzzles aimed at all levels of solving ability. Unique to The ENIGMA are “flats,” puzzles in verse form that have been around for more than 125 years. In each verse, one or more words are missing and replaced by cue words such as ONE or TWO. To solve the puzzle, you need to figure out the missing words using the hints given in the verse.
