Clinical trials have become the gold standard study design for demonstrating the effectiveness and safety of an intervention. The objective of clinical trials is to reduce or eliminate bias and control confounding using tools such as prospective observation, randomization, blinding, and the use of control groups to isolate the effect of an intervention and establish cause and effect.
